Weather in Isla de Chiloé
The weather in the Chiloé archipelago has three distinct shades which can change over a month, a week or even a few hours. This erratic climate is characterised by rain or an overcast sky or it can be an absolutely clear and sunny. Isla de Chiloé weather changes quickly and if it is not raining or misting, then it is drizzling. Even in peak winter, during the months of June and July, it is quite possible that the sun will start shining brightly. Weather is never bad in Chiloé but if you are looking for clear blue, sunny skies then the summer months of January and February are the best time to visit.
The weather on the west coast which faces the Pacific Ocean is more turbulent while the east coast is sheltered by the Corcovado Gulf. The many small islands in the gulf protect the mainland and it is much calmer on the east coast.
The average temperature in Chiloé is about 10º Celsius and the weather is humid and of the cool temperate kind. Summer is between December and March and that is when most of the tourists visit. Spring is also a wonderful time to come if you want to witness the nesting birds in the changing forest canopy and the sea shore.
Considering that it rains a lot in the Chiloé archipelago you should pack appropriately. If you plan to go hiking, then waterproof pants, a jacket and shoes are a must.
