Shopping in Isla de Chiloe
Like any other country, Chile is modern and offers shoppers the regular international goods which are sold in big cities and malls. Apart from these imported items, there are an equal number of shops which sell traditional handicrafts and locally made goods. In most cities and towns the ‘artesanias' and the local market function side by side, giving shoppers a wide variety to choose from. Traditional items in Chile are made by artisans who carry forth their family tradition by passing on skills from father to son. These ethnic productions find their inspiration in the pre-Hispanic Indian cultures like the Mapuche, Aymara and the Easter Island communities.
Feria Artesanal on Eusebio Lillo is a lively and often chaotic artisan market regarded as the best place in Chiloé to pick up straw figures for which Chiloé is famous.
